This lesson plan is from one of the Grade 10 religion classes that I taught in the French Immersion program.

I chose this lesson plan since the content had a big impact on students. The lesson was about finding a TedTalk and explaining why it was impactful for them. The students researched a topic they were interested in and shared why they liked the specific video. I chose a TedTalk that was impactful to me when I was their age, and both times I showed the video, it was stunned silence until a student broke it to say “Wow.” A few students even decided to pick that video as being impactful on them and wrote their rationale. It also allowed me to reflect and learn how to teach sensitive subjects that students might be facing, such as bullying or addiction. The lesson was additionally important since it led to the following lesson where they would share their TedTalks to their classmates using Padlet. Thus, they could share their passions to their classmates and create a bank of TEDTalks to watch. Additionally, the way the classes work this year, it allows me to improve my teaching as I am able to reflect upon any challenges I faced with Cohort A and improve for Cohort B. For example, I learned more of the unsaid aspects of teaching such as what to do when playing a video; should I stand to the side or in sight to model attentive behaviour?
