Artefact: Slide Deck

The main class that I taught was a grade 10 French immersion religion class. The slide deck that is included below as a PDF includes all the slides that I have created to teach the students. There is a clear progression in style as the further the slide deck goes, there are more details to aide students. The general format of the slides for each day was as follows:

My introduction slides were my hook to get the students interested in the topic in a secular manner. Even though the course was religion, we could not assume that everyone was Catholic. As such, we were looking at broader themes such a bullying, world peace, and holiday celebrations. The hook slide introduced the subject of the day in a fun manner.

Next, students would learn a new skill in creating a slide deck and improve their literacy or computer skills. While the introduction slides remained fairly broad as they were my speaking points, step-by-step instructions began to be included on how to use different software or drop-down menus in Google Slides. The idea was that if a student was not present or did not understand the original explanation, they would be able to follow the guides to complete the work. The slides were uploaded to the students’ virtual campus for ease of reference at any time.

Finally, the final slide of the day was the question of the day for the students. It would describe the task that needed to be completed, as well as the small requirements such as citations and recording how long it would take them to present each slide. It is a good artefact as it shows the progression of my teaching style and how it slowly adapted to meet the students' needs and personalities.
