How Web 2.0 and mobile learning can make learning engaging and inclusive?

Web 2.0 allows for greater communication and collaboration than Web 1.0. Through the use of a blog, students can showcase their work through a curated portfolio. As blogs can be a creative outlet that is personal to the blogger, it can be adapted to meet student needs, and thus be inclusive. Students may also take pride in their work, and become engaged on developing the best blog possible. On the other hand, a wiki is collaborative as the content can be edited by other users (Duffy, 2006). This can engage students as they work together to create content. Additionally, since the content is collaborative online, this can make learning more inclusive as ELL students may take the time to fine-tune their writing with peer support.

Mobile learning can also make learning engaging and inclusive, especially from a socio-economic perspective. Phones and tablets, especially those provided by the school, can reach underserved children. Additionally, mobile learning can fit multiple learning environments and make learning something that can happen at anytime and anywhere (Chou, Block & Jesness, 2012). This makes learning more inclusive, whether we are using communication applications for those who struggle with oral communication; learning applications such as DuoLingo for additional practice in languages; or collaborative education applications through the use of Google Suite to make students engaged and included in group work. Mobile learning can aide us in personalizing the learning experience, as long as we know how to differentiate it (Chou, Block & Jesness, 2012).
